Entre 1910 environ et le milieu des années 1930 apparaît dans l’œuvre de Pierre Bonnard un vase au décor assez banal de branches, de feuilles et de fruits de cerisiers. Objet né avant 1911 dans les ateliers de la faïencerie Lebacqz & Bouchart dans le nord de la France, ce pichet à eau a fasciné le peintre au point qu’il réalise une trentaine de tableaux – presque exclusivement des natures mortes mais aussi un nu et deux intérieurs. On sait que les objets rares intéressaient fort peu le peintre qui avait besoin de vivre durablement avec un objet pour en scruter sa valeur intrinsèque. Métamorphosé par la couleur, l’objet semble à chaque fois différent, parfois méconnaissable. L’exposition est l’occasion de donner un éclairage particulier à cet objet culte pour un « bonnardien », inspirant pour le peintre qui a fait des émules sur ce sujet. Il a inspiré une trentaine de peintures toutes reproduites dans ce catalogue sous la direction de Véronique Serrano. Un tiers est présenté dans l’exposition, ainsi que des dessins.
ENG: Between around 1910 and the mid-1930s, a vase with a fairly ordinary decoration of branches, leaves and cherry fruit appeared in Pierre Bonnard’s work. An object created before 1911 in the workshops of the Lebacqz & Bouchart earthenware factory in northern France, this water pitcher fascinated the painter to the point that he produced around thirty paintings – almost exclusively still lifes but also a nude and two interiors. We know that rare objects were of little interest to the painter, who needed to live with an object for a long time in order to scrutinize its intrinsic value. Transformed by color, the object seems different each time, sometimes unrecognizable. The exhibition is an opportunity to shed particular light on this cult object for a “Bonnardian”, inspiring for the painter who has had imitators on this subject. It inspired around thirty paintings, all reproduced in this catalog under the direction of Véronique Serrano. A third is presented in the exhibition, as well as drawings. IN FRANS!
