An overview of the French-Hungarian artist’s oeuvre, from her first works dating back to the late 1940’s to her latest productions, including the Lérins Abbaye stained-glass. Departed on December 7, 2023 at the age of 99, Vera Molnár (born in 1924 in Budapest ; living in Paris since 1947) was a pioneer of digital art.

Created around 1947 in the spirit of constructivism, her artwork, inspired by the psychology of shapes and the laws of vision, become plastic studies of the optic. A computer scientist before she became a computer engineer, Molnár implemented in the 1960s a production method she named “imaginary machine”, before becoming the first artist in France (1968) to create digital drawings using a plotter table connected to a computer. Up until the mid 1990s, she engaged in a systematic exploration of formal families whose mutations she portrayed, often favoring retakes and series.
