As an ode to the often little-known modernist heritage gems that Belgium has to offer, Gerlin Heestermans started the heritage platform Toerist Modernist in 2019. Soon her hobby – spotting houses and buildings, putting on the bold shoes and ringing the bell for a visit – became almost an obsession. She mapped out various architectural walks in order to put the many beautiful modernist houses and buildings on the map, which are often not protected heritage sites and are therefore vulnerable to change. Her Instagram account @touristmodernist (with more than 27.5K followers) became a must-follow for architecture enthusiasts.
