This book was created in response to the work Cabinet of Curiosities, which Nick Ervinck made for the library of Waregem. In doing so, he paid homage to the iconic British sculptor Henry Moore, to whom many contemporary artists, such as himself, are indebted.

Using the elements in Ervinck’s Cabinet of Curiosities (books, shells, scale models, toys, crystals …), this publication explores the shared fascinations of both artists and the similarities that can be found across the generations in their work. .

In addition to a special interest in organic forms, Ervinck and Moore also share the desire to push artistic boundaries, each within the possibilities of their own time. They want to create an innovative design language with diverse, new materials and techniques. They invariably aspire to a cross-pollination between what is man-made and what has grown organically. For example, cutting and pasting digital images in 3D software at Ervinck is conceptually reminiscent of the way in which Moore integrated natural objects into his models.

Furthermore, both Moore and Ervinck pay a lot of attention to how a sculpture relates to space. They both create biomorphic figures that question the world in which they are placed. Using his typical RAL 1003 yellow, Ervinck turns his sculptures into strange scares in our digital and physical images, immersed in life and succeeds in making the viewer reflect on the meaning of the image and his own position in the world. .
