On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of Galerie Ronny Van de Velde, author Jan Ceuleers delves into its colorful history. From the mid-1990s, when the art market went through a deep recession as a result of the Gulf War, Van de Velde decided to focus resolutely on names from the historical avant-garde. After a first retrospective of Marcel Duchamp, the gallery grew in a few months into a self-made museum with all the trimmings. Afterwards, retrospectives of Francis Picabia, Man Ray, Georges Vantongerloo, Marcel Broodthaers, James Ensor and countless other exhibitions followed.
This book introduces you to a quirky gallerist who, thanks to his artistic intuition, was able to successfully navigate his own course and became a fixed value in the Antwerp art landscape and beyond. IN DUTCH!
