This book presents the idiosyncratic oeuvre and life of the Dutch architect Frits Peutz (1896-1974). Before the Second World War, he settled in South Limburg, where he built an incredible amount of buildings. He worked imperturbably on a repertoire that is now internationally highly regarded.

One of his most iconic projects is the Heerlen Town Hall, now a national monument. After the Huis op de Linde, the Retraitehuis and the Glaspaleis, this was his fourth project for the city. As a ‘romantic rationalist’, Peutz was a source of inspiration for architects such as Jo Coenen, Wiel Arets, Wim van den Bergh and Francine Houben. The Town Hall, renovated in 2023 and expanded into a new municipal office by the Mecanoo architectural firm, was the first town hall to also be used as an exhibition space for visual arts. IN DUTCH!
