Born in Stockholm in 1909, Anna-Eva Bergman trained in Oslo, Vienna, then Paris. After illustration and writing, she devoted herself fully to painting from 1946. Over the years, she developed a unique non-figurative language, based on a vocabulary of simple forms inspired by Nordic and Mediterranean landscapes. Although celebrated and exhibited throughout the world during her lifetime, Anna-Eva Bergman’s work today demands to be reconsidered more widely in the field of art history. This work sheds decisive light on the rediscovery of the Franco-Norwegian artist, particularly on her particular relationship to the landscape, the radical purity of her colors and shapes, as well as the very specific use of a material that has become her signature. : the metal sheet.

Published on the occasion of the exhibition at the Musée Art Moderne in Paris from March 31 to Sunday July 16, 2023. IN FRENCH!
