The catalog about the Belgian artist Anto-Carte (1886-1954) Heaven and Earth introduces you to a virtuoso of the brush, whose work weaves a fascinating link between the ages. The expertise of the great masters of painting is reflected in paintings painted in the first half of the 20th century by this Bergen artist with an international reputation.
80 works from public and private collections depict Anto-Carte’s (B) painting that focuses on the pursuit of the sacred. The artist’s largest paintings thus recapture the classical themes of Christian iconography while at the same time honoring the grandeur of the peasant world.
After two major retrospectives in 1945 and 1995, the BAM focuses on the sacred with a more reflective exhibition. It is an invitation to let things go and immerse yourself completely in this spiritual world.
The exhibition continues on a journey in the same themes, this time illustrated by a selection of important works or rediscoveries from the municipal collections. A dialogue arises between the works for a double interpretation of the same theme. IN DUTCH!
